A Departure - Galt Museum

Where better to start our tour than with “a Departure.” This piece is based on the three types of driver train wheels that have crossed our beloved High-Level Bridge, bringing people, coal, and many of our other amazing exports all around Southern Alberta. The piece was erected to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the High-Level Bridge, with the frame of the sculpture itself beautifully framing and capturing different perspectives of the bridge, the Oldman River Valley, the Galt Museum and the University of Lethbridge. Furthermore, standing between the two wheels closest to the bridge, you can see a late twentieth-century driver train wheel seemingly “rolling” into the future.
