Wrangling Willie and the Windeater

Commissioned as part of the Downtown Business Revitalization Zone’s initiative to revitalize the downtown area of Lethbridge, and in collaboration with the City of Lethbridge Heart of Our City Revitalization Committee, this kinetic windsock was commissioned. This piece comes from a familiar artist we have seen previously on this tour, but it is in a different medium than before. Alex Pavlenko created this piece as a slight wink to the often ridiculous wind we receive in this city. A rotor is positioned in the front to add to the kinetic effect and movement of the sculpture. A miniature airman sits atop the windsock, personifying this piece, and creating a visual linkage from the piece to the strong aviary history.
